Formula Renault UK is established as the country’s leading single-seater championship, launching the car racing careers of Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Räikkönen and Heikki Kovalainen.

The 2009 season marks the 20th anniversary of the Formula Renault UK Championship.

The championship is held over 10 race weekends with 20 races during the season. The Formula Renault UK Championship supports the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) as well as the World Series by Renault Championship where spectators can be in excess of 135,000.
