David started his race weekend very strongly by going 4th quickest on Friday's practice session. On Saturday Qualifying took place in the morning to determine the grid positions for race one and an afternoon qualifying would determine the second race grid positions. Qualifying one took place on a wet but drying track. David decided to go out on wet tyres straight away and immediately went quickest, for the majority of the session David was circulating within the top six as each lap was getting drier and drier and the track was almost ready for slick tyres. A late change to slick tyres meant that David had only three laps to get his tyres up temperature which was hard as the track was still damp and when he was on his quickest lap he encountered traffic at Clearways as well as some more rain, which meant he qualified 14th.
In the second Qualifying David missed the window on his new tyre run and therefore missed the best of the tyre and despite only being half a second off the pace this meant David qualified a disappointing 18th for race two.
Commenting on qualifying David said; "Our qualifying positions for today have been very disappointing as it has not represented our true pace. I was looking to be within the top 5 after Friday's testing where I learnt a lot and set the fourth quickest time of the day. However at least I know what went wrong so hopefully the next qualifying won't be a problem. I'm just looking to make up as much ground as possible tomorrow even though I know it will be difficult since there is little opportunity's for passing around Brands."
In race one David got a good start but still lost a place on the start and was boxed out on the first corner dropping him down to 16th. A brave move around the outside of Druids got him alongside 14th place going down to Graham Hill bend and he was able to claim the place. David then chased down the car in front and within a few laps was close enough to attempt a move at Paddock bend, David positioned his car to the left to go around the outside but as the car in front went to cover the line, David made a quick switch to the inside to take Williamson. David then continued to pursue the cars in front but was unable to make up any more places before the end of the race, despite a last push on the last lap finishing along side Blomstedt and only 0.071 seconds behind.
Race two got off to a good start and David was able to make up a position to take 17th. By the end of lap one, David had managed to make his way up to 15th with some strong overtaking manoeuvres. Throughout the race David pushed extremely hard and was able to get himself up to 12th on the penultimate lap, and a late braking move up the inside of Dwyer on the last lap gave him a finishing position of 11th.
David said; "I felt I did the best I could in both races to limit the damage caused in Qualifying. I had two average starts in both races, which is not a surprise to me since I have not raced since 2007 but I know what I have to do next time to improve them. I think I showed the team that I can race well and to have made up seven places in the second race was encouraging considering Brands Hatch is not known for overtaking. Hopefully qualifying will go well for me next time and I would like to think I will be back at the front."
