The world iconic circuit of Le Mans set the scene for Round 3 of the 2024 Michelin Le Mans Cup championship. David McDonald made his much-anticipated debut at the legendary Le Mans circuit, teaming up with Claude Bovet for two action-packed races. The duo showcased impressive skill and teamwork throughout the weekend, but the results were a mix of highs and challenges.
Race 1: Strategy and Setbacks
In the opening race, McDonald and Bovet executed a brilliant strategy that should have seen them secure a well-earned victory. However, a red flag late in the race caused the event to be stopped and the race results were taken from the classification 6 laps prior.. As a result, the #91 car was classified 4th.. It was a bitter disappointment after a flawless performance, but the team remained focused and optimistic.
Race 2: Strong Start, Tough Luck
The second race saw McDonald make an outstanding start, charging up the grid and gaining 8 positions in the early laps. Handing the car over to Bovet in strong contention, the pair looked set for another solid finish. Unfortunately, a series of safety car periods worked against them, stalling their momentum and ultimately relegating them to 15th place by the finish line. Despite running as high as 8th earlier in the race, the interruptions proved too much to overcome.
Though the results didn’t reflect their pace and potential, McDonald and Bovet demonstrated excellent teamwork, resilience, and skill on one of motorsport’s most challenging stages.
