The final round of the 2024 Michelin Le Mans Cup Championship took place at the challenging Portimão circuit in Portugal, where the #91 Aston Martin of David McDonald and Claude Bovet showed strong performance throughout the weekend.
Despite a difficult qualifying session impacted by red flags, which prevented Claude from setting a lap that truly reflected his pace, the duo remained optimistic. Claude impressed during his opening stint, running as one of the fastest Bronze drivers in the field and demonstrating excellent race pace.
When David jumped into the car after the pit stop, taking over in 10th place, he quickly showcased the strength of the Blackthorn Aston Martin, battling hard to gain positions and chasing down the field ahead. Unfortunately, a series of Full-Course Yellows (FCYs) and safety car periods prevented further progress, despite the team’s evident pace for a higher finish.
In the end, McDonald and Bovet crossed the line in 8th place. While the result wasn’t what the team had hoped for, the season provided valuable lessons and insights. With renewed focus and positivity, David and the team are looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead in the next season.
